HOME LOCATION TIPS

- where the expats live
- what type of properties are there
- what area to choose
- what is important to know

Most foreigners prefer to live in the Center or on the hills of the north Zagreb from Sveti duh in the east till Bukovac in the west. In the summer hills are cooler, quieter with a lot of fresh air and very green. On the north of the city are also all international schools (French, German, British and American). There you can find apartments, houses and deluxe houses (villas) often with a garden and a garage. A good advice when you are searching for property is to travel there by public transport (in the hills there are mostly buses) or by foot and to try your journey during the morning rush hour when roads tend to become blocked. That way you'll see just how easy or difficult your choosen location is going to be and how much you will have to rely on a car.

Northern Zagreb is hilly with the result that streets tend to run up and down from north to south rather than accross the hills from east to west.
Popular areas of zagreb are: Vrhovec, Vinogradi, Bjenik, Šestine, Mlinovi, Pantovčak, Tuškanac, Prekrižje, Remete, Maksimir, Bukovačka, Bukovac, Zelenjak, Kraljevec and of course city center.
For those who prefer to live in the city center there you can find a lots of apartments in Austro-Hungarian style buildings with large interiors and high ceilings. Problem in the center is parking so you might pay extra money for parking ticket or park in a public garage, but please have in mind that a reserved space in and underground car park can cost as much as 250 eur per month.
