IKEA Croatia has opened its doors 21st August 2014
Five years after purchasing land in Rugavica, east of Zagreb, IKEA’s 100 million euro investment was finally realised, the first IKEA retail store in Croatia opened its doors on August 21st 2014.
The original IKEA store was opened in Sweden in 1958. The first stores outside Sweden were opened in Norway (1963) and Denmark (1969). In the 1970s, stores expanded to other European countries, with the first store outside Scandinavia opening in Switzerland (1973), followed by Germany (1974). During the same decade, stores opened in other countries, including Japan, (1974), Australia, Hong Kong, Canada (1975), the Netherlands and Singapore (1978). Germany, with 46 stores, is IKEA's largest market, followed by the United States, with 38.
IKEA currently operates 338 stores in 40 countries.
The location for the store is vitally important for IKEA as it should be near major roads, motorways and/or public transport.
IKEA store in Zagreb is located in the east of the city of Zagreb near the highway Zagreb-Slavonski Brod in a commercial zone Zagreb East.
