Italian community protests against the closure of Italian consulate in Split

Croatian Times

The Italian community in Split is collecting signatures of support against the possible closure of the Italian consulate in Croatia's second largest city.

The consulate risks the closure due to a need of cutting the costs and the Italian community in Split seeks support against it.

They were collecting the signatures for a petition signed among the rest even by the mayor of Split Ivo Baldasar.

The Italian community in Split has around 250 members, but they also appeal because at least 500 of them are in nearby Zadar or more in the rest of the southern region of Dalmatia.

The Italian community also announces the closure is not a good move for Italian entrepreneurs that enter the Croatian market as the country has joined the European Union last month.

The closure is to happen before the end of this year.
